Wyoming Walleye Circuit’s Governor’s Cup Championship 2010

champion_top_5_Small

The Wyoming Walleye Circuit’s final event of 2010 our Governor’s Cup Championship was held on Boysen Reservoir on June twenty sixth and twenty seventh. This event consisted of the top finishing anglers of our 2010 season. Prefishing for our anglers was nothing short of awesome, great weather and great walleye fishing. Excitement was in the air at our rules meeting. Anglers were ready for competition to begin. They were on good fish and it seemed nothing was going to go wrong. But Mother Nature as with every event this season had a different plan. Anglers had been blessed with warm temps and flat water for the past few days. Sunrise on day one of the competition we were greeted with wind, which in the am wasn’t too bad, but as we moved into the afternoon the breeze quickly turned into three foot white caps. All of the pre-fishing anglers had put together went right out the window. Mother Nature had challenged the anglers of the WWC as she had in the previous events this season and each team met the challenge head on. It took most teams a little time to put it together that morning but by mid day everyone seem to be getting things together . Teams began to show up at the weight boat with the great walleye Boysen is known for.

As day one came to a close leading the top five was Scott Borup and Cory Buckley of South Dakota coming in with 24.06 pounds. Just over three pounds behind them were the team of Steve and Zeb Schauss of Wyoming with 20.66 pounds. Two teams tied for the third spot, Clint and Carl Acres of Wyoming and Tim James and Brad Berg of Wyoming came in with 20.44 pounds. In fourth place were Pat Brown and Ray Rintamaki of Wyoming with 20.22 pounds and fifth place went to Brandon Green and Brandon Miller of Wyoming with 19.68 pounds.

Sunrise on day two teams were met with a beautiful Wyoming morning, not a breath of wind and a sunrise only Wyoming could provide. Each team was launched and ready to go by 6:40. The anglers of the WWC had a special treat this weekend, Danny Jaber, daughter of Dan Jaber of Shoshoni sang our National Anthem for us. Her beautiful voice echoed across the lake as each angler watched and listed. As soon as Danny was finished boat forty nine was called and by 6:50 each team was underway and headed off in search of there own Boysen monster walleye. All day long the weather was spectacular, lots of sunshine and flat water with an occasional breeze. Things still did happen for many anglers as quick as I thought it would. But by noon things were beginning to fall into place. The walleye Boysen is famous for began to make an appearance. The team of Clint and Carl Acres brought to the weigh boat a five fish basket around 9am. Soon other teams began to come by. Around 11:30am I looked across the lake and it was the Acres team coming by again, as they pulled up to the weigh boat I knew they had found the walleye they were looking for. Both anglers with a grin as big as the Wyoming Sky itself and sure enough they had a few upgrades two of which included a twenty seven and a half and an awesome thirty inch Walleye. The bite was on. Now all I could do was wait to see what came in. As the day went on the walleye baskets grew.

As day two came to a close it was the team of Clint and Carl Acres of Wyoming taking top honors with a two day weight of 50.46 pounds which earned a total cash prize of $6,375 along with a pair of team jackets displaying there accomplishments. Just over eight pounds behind them were Scott Borup and Cory Buckley of South Dakota coming in with 41.28 pounds earning them a cash total of $3,000. Just over three pounds behind them were Brandon Green and Brandon Miller of Wyoming with 37.62 pounds sending them home with $2,500. The fourth place belonged to Ross Coates and Dale Andreen of Wyoming finishing up with 35.68 pounds and $2,000. The fifth place spot went to another Riverton team of Pat Brown and Ray Rintamaki coming in with 34.12 pounds earning them a cash prize of $1,500 dollars. Our Comeback Award went to the team of Chris Wiley and Scott Severs Jr. of Wyoming, advancing 25 places from day one to day two earning them a cash prize of $2,000 dollars. Big walleye for day one went to Steve and Zeb Schauss with a 11.12 Walleye earning them a check for $1,000 dollars sponsored by Blackhawk Marine in South Dakota. Big Walleye on day two went to Clint and Carl Acres with a 10.82 pound Walleye also earning them a $1,000 dollar prize sponsored by Blackhawk Marine. The highest finishing Lund went to Clint and Carl Acres along with a cash prize of $375 dollars sponsored by Lund Boats. The Humminbird electronics went to Todd Deaver and Jason Krueger of Nebraska. The two Mercury props sponsored by Mercury went to Joel Hershman and Rick Bodily, Jeff Fetters and Bill Percy of Wyoming. The Walleye Central $100 rules meeting cash prize went to Kent Ohman and Jay Bischoff of Wyoming.

One other story I would like to share with you. A couple of weeks ago I received information that one of our angler’s fiancé was diagnosed with Leukemia. This generated a spark and the WWC staff along with the help of Mike and Diedre Homann decided to have a fund raiser for this young couple. It began with us raffling off a rifle that belonged to Brandon Miller, Husband to be of Sarah Mosteller, the young lady that was diagnosed with the disease. Brandon was going to sell the rifle to raise some money to help pay for Sarah’s expensive medication. I suggested that Brandon donate the rifle to the WWC and we would raffle it off to raise more money than he could sell it for. That was only the beginning. As an addition the WWC donated an entry into next seasons events, Cost Plus donated an awesome smoker/grill, Jimmy Brierley donated a shotgun, Mike and Deidra of Mid Mountain Concrete Pumping donated a Mercury prop, Sportsman’s Warehouse donated a $100 gift card, Blackhawk Marine donated a Lowrance Navigator, the following businesses made cash donations… Andreen Hunt construction, A&P of Wyoming, Casper Building systems, Coates Construction, Cooter Jenkins, McMurray Ready Mix, Mobile Concrete, Rocky Mountain Envirotech plus Zeb Schauss who won the big Walleye cash on day one, he very generously donated his portion which was $500 dollars. It makes me very proud to be a part of such a generous group of people.  We sold tickets to win the donated items over the course of the weekend. Our combined cash total the WWC raised for Brandon and Sarah came to $5,010 dollars. Mike and Deidra of Mid Mountain Concrete Pumping are continuing a raffle on a 7mm sponsored by A&P of Wyoming. You can contact them at 307-262-2519 for more information and tickets. People say that even in some of life’s worst circumstances good things can happen. Brandon and Sarah’s situation has brought about something we feel will grow into a great nonprofit organization. The Wyoming Walleye Circuit has begun the paperwork on our new WWC Foundation. This foundation has been created to help the anglers of the WWC and there immediate family if another crisis such as this arises. If you are a business or someone that would be interested in becoming a part of what is sure to be a great help to many people please contact us at 307 266-2756. We will post more details on the WWC foundation as things develop. THANK YOU...

We would like to say thank you to all anglers and there families that joined us this season. We all had a great time and gaining a few life long memories. My family and I enjoyed spending part of our summer with each and every one of you, we are already making plans for next season which is looking to be our best season yet. We hope to see all of you next spring along with a few new faces. We hope all of you have a great summer, good luck on the water, stay in touch and don’t forget to share your walleye fishing adventures and photos of your summer/fall fishing trips with us….<*{{{{{><
